Cold weather favorites

The weather here in Marin, California can’t seem to make up its mind lately, but I do think the cold weather is going to be here to stay soon. So it is time to gear up for winter.

Even when it’s not raining, one of the things I always make sure to have is a rain cover for my stroller and or infant car seat. While rain covers are kind of a pain to put on, and no, they don’t look very pretty, they keep the warmth in and the wind or rain away from your little one. Most strollers come with or have the option to buy a rain cover that fits your brand of stroller perfectly, and a lot of time that’s the best option.

Things to look for in a rain cover: PVC-free, well-vented, and a peekaboo window is a plus.

Footmuffs are also a wonderful alternative to blankets when you’re out and about. Don’t get me wrong, I still think a blanket is important to carry with you for when you’re going to be spending time inside. But for strolling, I prefer footmuffs.

Most of the top strollers companies these days make footmuffs that fit perfectly on their products, but if that doesn’t work out, the JJ Cole bundleme is a favorite of mine. JJ Cole offers many footmuff options, such as their Original (very warm and fluffy), Urban (a little less bulk and a sleeker exterior), Weather Resistant (well, that about says it), Arctic (for very, very cold climates) and Lite (great for summer nights). So find what works for you, and make sure the option you pick fits your stroller well. It’s a bonus if your stroller folds well with it on.

If your little one gets wet from the rain or spilled milk or a potty accident, this isn’t the time of year to let them air dry. So extra socks, booties (Robeez are my favorite), rain boots, hats, gloves, and a change of clothes are all a must going into winter. I suggest keeping a spare set of clothes for each of your children in the car at all times, so you always have a backup in case you forget to pack extra clothes in your diaper bag! The sugarSNAP Car-Go trunk organizer is a recent find of mine that really helps helps keep me organized – it’s smart, cute, and I absolutely love it!

Finally, skip the tissues and try some Boogie Wipes for those runny noses. Or a favorite facial wipe of yours, just make sure they’re safe on baby or child skin.

That’s it! Now, just don’t forget you! Because if you get sick, everything falls apart. 😉
